Common questions
Do I pay the full amount first?
Yes. You pay for the system, and the subsidy is credited to your bank account after TNPDCL inspection. If needed, collateral-free bank loans are available under the scheme.
Will on-grid solar work during a power cut?
No. For the safety of line workers, on-grid inverters switch off when grid power fails. If you need backup, choose a hybrid system with batteries.
How much roof space do I need?
Roughly 80–100 sq. ft. of shadow-free roof per kW. A 3 kW system needs about 250–300 sq. ft.
What happens to the extra power?
With a net meter, surplus units go to the TNPDCL grid and are adjusted against your bill.
Do I need to apply separately for the Tamil Nadu subsidy?
No. Once your PM Surya Ghar subsidy is credited, the Tamil Nadu Solar Rooftop Portal picks up your application automatically and TEDA releases the state top-up.
How do I maintain the panels?
Wash them with plain water every 2–3 weeks to remove dust, ideally early in the morning. There are no moving parts.
